In summer, Queenstown doesn't want the day to end — and neither will you. Sunrise comes before 6am. Sunset lingers well past 9pm. That's nearly 16 hours of daylight. For photographers, it's a gift. For couples, it means no rushing, no counting down the clock, just time to breathe and be present. Temperatures sit between 15°C and 28°C. Lake Wakatipu glimmers. The hills are lush and green. The air smells like summer. And the mountains — even less snow on the mountains — are still every bit as dramatic and beautiful.
Why Shoot in Summer? Because light like this doesn't exist anywhere else. The long southern summer days give us flexibility that no other season can offer. Summer is also Queenstown at its most vibrant — the town is alive, the lake is sparkling, and the energy of the place is infectious. That kind of joy shows up in photographs.
Summer Locations We Love Lake Wakatipu & Queenstown Lakefront, the lake becomes a mirror for the mountains and the sky during the no wind condition. It's one of the most reliably beautiful spots in the world, and summer afternoon light makes it extraordinary. Glendhu Bay with the hills rolling behind you. Summer turns this entire area into something cinematic and still. Glenorchy & Paradise Road The drive alone is worth it — poplar-lined roads, wide river flats, and mountain peaks in every direction.
Summer is our most popular season — dates go quickly, especially December and January. March is the best month for the photoshoot we like. If you're planning to be in Queenstown over summer, lock in your date early. We'll handle everything from locations to gowns so your shoot day is completely effortless.
