September and October offer snow-capped mountain backdrops with temperatures that are actually workable — between 8°C and 15°C, there is genuinely nothing else like it in the world.

You get the drama of snow on the mountains, the softness of green valleys, the clarity of post-winter air. Crowds are noticeably thinner than summer. Hotels and availability are easier to lock in.
