1. Marriage licence
Q: Can we legally get married in New Zealand as overseas visitors?
Yes. You don’t need to be a New Zealand citizen or resident to marry here. You apply for a marriage licence online through NZ Births, Deaths and Marriages, at least 3 working days before your wedding. The licence costs NZ$158 and is valid for 3 months. We’ll guide you through the application step by step, and our registered celebrant takes care of the paperwork on the day. After the wedding, you can order your official NZ marriage certificate.
2. Weather backup
Q: What happens if the weather is bad on our wedding day?
Mountain weather in Queenstown changes quickly, so we recommend keeping one spare day in your trip. We watch the forecast closely with our helicopter partners. If it isn’t safe to fly, we’ll move your ceremony to your backup day, or switch to one of our beautiful ground locations if you’d prefer. Rain, snow and moody clouds often make the most dramatic photos, so we’ll always find a way to make your day work.
3. Guests
Q: Can we bring family and friends?
Of course. Ground ceremonies can welcome up to 6 guests. For helicopter weddings, our helicopter seats 6 passengers including the photographer and celebrant, so extra guests can join on a second helicopter. Bridesmaids or mums can also add hair (NZ$150) and makeup (NZ$250).
